Franchetto

The Francetto family has lived and farmed since 1800 in Terrossa, a small village in the wild and biodiverse hills of the Val d'Alpone - at the foot of the Lessini mountains.
Agriculture is at the heart of the company's history, which is soon transformed thanks to Uncle Tony's great passion.
He, a vine enthusiast, planted a veritable nursery laboratory where he experimented with different types of cuttings known at the time, the old varieties dall'Oro, Uliega, Delizia and many others, not forgetting Durella and Garganega. It was Uncle Tony who gave a very young Antonio his passion for viticulture.
The history of the Franchetto winery, however, begins later, in 1982, when Antonio Franchetto, at the age of 20 and already aware of the great potential of his territory, decided to have his say by starting to press his grapes and make his wine.
At the beginning of the 90s, Antonio and Mara decided to start planting the first vineyards in Westenano, in the upper part of the Val d'Alpone - a mountainous area rich in forests and large green meadows full of flowers. They soon realized that in this unspoiled area, their vineyards would bring them great satisfaction.
Today, Giulia Franchetto, together with her mother and father, continues the family history, running the company and always working in Terrossa, where it all began.
"In my wines, I look for an authentic expression of my land and its history. I imagine my wines to be clean, direct and free to express their character. That's why my father and I decided to work in a simple way, allowing our wines to be a pure expression of the grapes and the area in which they were born." - Julia
Territory:
On the territory where the vineyards are located, there were several very active volcanoes 45 million years ago, and everything was covered by the warm waters of the tropical sea. These special conditions gave rise to soils consisting mainly of basalts and black tuffs, rich in iron, magnesium and many other trace elements, which are transferred to the wine through the grapes, giving it a special, very recognizable mineral taste.
In order to best interpret this territory, the company works mainly with Durella and Garganega varieties, two local varieties that are deeply rooted in this valley and that reveal their full potential here.
The vineyards are located mainly in two areas of the Val d'Alpone: on the hills of Terrossa, in the municipality of Ronca, and in the mountains of Westenanova.
